A contributing editor to Thread’s Magazine, Louise Cutting has written numerous articles with an emphasis in garment construction, has lectured at the ASG National Conference, The Sewing and Stitching Expo in Puyallup, WA, The Original Sewing and Quilting Expo, held in various cities, Martha Pullen's Market Place in Texas and has had her own ‘school’ at The Martha Pullen School of  Art Fashion in Huntsville.  Her speaking engagements and hands on ‘Sit and Sews’ have include many independent fabric stores, ASG chapters around the country, Bishop Sewing Groups and Fiber Artist Guilds.

 

The Home and Garden Television (HGTV) program 'Sew Much More' with Susan Khalje, asked Louise to co-host several segments. The programs have aired on HGTV and DIY. Sue Hausmann had Louise as a guest for ten garment technique shows on America Sews for PBS and she has appeared on six segments with Martha Pullen for her PBS sewing series.  ‘Threads Magazine’ in conjunction with Louise created two very successful DVD’s on Industry Insider Sewing Techniques.  They are the highest selling DVD’s Threads Magazine produced to date. Three more DVD's are in production.

 Thirty-five years ago, Louise founded ‘Cutting Corners, Inc’ a successful Custom Couture Clothing business.  She designed bridal gowns, tailored suits, maternity and ‘high end’ sportswear.  Louise is the president and CEO of Cutting Corners, Inc.  Fabric Collections, her wonderful store in Winter Park, Florida for 15 years, closed a few years ago due to the hurricanes that hit the Orlando area.  Louise’s concept was to establish a haven for the sewing enthusiast who loves to create.  Fabric Collections had a wide selection of New York, 7th Avenue, and European designer fabrics and buttons.  On a daily basis, Louise was designing for her customers, clothing that would not only be flattering to them, but their lifestyle.

 

She continues to bring the sewing public ‘Fabric Collections’ including fabrics, buttons and interfacings that are exclusive to her, when traveling to Sewing Expos around the country and through a mail order service.  "The sewing customer, even if she is sewing for herself, or using a dressmaker, should have the same opportunity to acquire the best products that the top designers have available to them." 

 

"The Cutting Line Designs" pattern company was created 14 years ago with the most popular being the One Seam Pants©...52,000 pattern have been sold.  The One Seam Pants©was recently updated including slimmer sizing, new details and pocket. The collection is always evolving with future patterns on the drafting table presently focusing on jackets, great tops, blouses, and skirts.  Louise has given the creative public a sleek and simple ‘canvas’ on which to play.  She is setting the scene for today's lifestyle and image, with a timeless and easy elegance.  Her serene style has clean, simple shapes and modern lines for a peaceful balance.  Louise has compiled over 35 years of knowledge into an intensive weekend retreats. 

 

The 'CORE TECHNIQUES' weekend with  an optional CERTIFIED TEACHER TRAINING’ day, has been designed for women wanting to share their knowledge and skills, utilizing the best methods and CUTTING LINE DESIGN PATTERNS’.  The FITTING CLINIC’ weekend is devoted to each individual student’s needs for altering CUTTING LINE DESIGN PATTERNS' to her shape and size. The ‘FITTING RETREAT'  is an additional weekend in a relaxed atmosphere with the emphasis on 'CUTTING LINE DESIGN PATTERNS'. Customizing the fit and design, plus time to sew your creation. 

 

A combined design focus between Louise and Linda Lee of the Sewing Workshop   Pattern   Company created the ‘Shapes PATTERNS’ line.  The collection includes styles that have been distilled to their simplest forms while making an amazingly fresh statement!  Based on an array of rectangles and other geometric shapes, the pieces have many contexts and look completely different in a variety of fabrics.  They are super simple for the novice to the experienced sewer to make quickly.

 

The booklet ‘Cutting Across the Country in Style’ has everything you need in one handy spot. Capsule wardrobes for travel, creating a variety of wardrobes for work and play, color, luggage & packing, safety & security, master lists for your travels, packing charts, and sewing with Slinky. The additional booklet ‘Cutting Through the Clutter’ dealing with subjects on Fashion at 'our' age, perfect fitting bras, accessories, proportions, hard to fit areas, the five basic silhouettes and changing lifestyle.

The website Louise launched www.cuttinglinedesigns.com is an online extension of hard to locate Interfacings from designers in Europe and America, notions for garment sewing, along with Cutting Line Design patterns, Shapes Patterns, DVD’s and Cutting Corners Booklets.  Her numerous articles for Threads Magazine includes 'A Bakers Dozen of Designer Tips and Techniques' Continuing on the same subject, were two more installments, plus an article titled ‘Peeking Inside an Armani Jacket’ featured the designer’s inventive way of applying a chest shield.  Louise was asked to submit ‘Deconstruction Edges’ for a ‘Master Class’ article in the 20th anniversary addition of Threads.  An article devoted to ‘10 Timeless Details’ was so extensive it continued on the ThreadsMagazine.com website. Just recently, Threads devoted the entire issue to fitting. Louise's article was on ‘How to Drop in a Bust Dart into a garment and picking the Right Bra Size’.  With Louise being a contributing editor, she is now posting monthly sewing techniques on the Threads blog, answering in the Q & A section of the magazine, and having a featured article in almost every issue.

 

She is a professional Fashion Illustrator. Louise handled daily newspaper and catalog fashion ads for a Department Stores and Advertising Agencies, creating national accounts. Many of her illustrations have appeared on the pages of Vogue and Harpers Bazaar. Louise designed the original concept for the 'Cutting Line Designs' Pattern Company, creating the envelope and step-by-step illustrations for the instructions, drafts the patterns from her original garment designs.

For ten years, Louise was the Department Head for the Fashion Merchandising and Design program at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and Prospect Hall College. She taught Interior Design at Mary Mount College.

 

She has been a member of the Board of Directors of various Museums, Art Centers and Civic Theaters in a fund raising capacity. Louise was the co-director of the local ‘Fashion Group International’, a 90-year-old global, nonprofit organization based in New York City with over 5000 members worldwide. Their emphasis is to encourage men and women to seek career opportunities in fashion and related industries through scholarship funding.
