The above measurements are a guide. You might like garments to fit a bit closer or looser from the body. I always recommend you look at the finished garment measurements on the back of the envelope. guide sheet or on the tissue pattern. Look in your wardrobe for a similar garment that you are planning on making, try it on and see if you like the fit. Measure the bust and hip circumference of  the top or jacket from the center front line to center front line (not the garment edge, if it buttons) and measure the circumference at the hip line for a skirt. Check the finished measurements on the pattern.  Use those finished measurements to better place yourself in a size.

Always check the finished garment sizes of the Shapes Patterns you are thinkin.g of making. The design is to be oversized and you want the garment to be a bit closer to the body. If you do choose a smaller size, double check the arm circumference and the length of the size chosen. The Shapes pattern are always fun to wear and bring attention because of their unusual shape!
