From Classic to Contemporary at Cutting Line Designs

CLASSIC TO CONTEMPORARY
A man-tailored shirt is a classic.  Made in white, it can slide under a vest or jacket, top off a pair of dark pants or a pencil skirt, or change into lounge luxury if slightly oversized.

Made in denim, it's a contemporary classic.  Here's mine.

The Blouse Perfected in denim    The Blouse Perfected pattern

View A has the curved hem, plackets, cuffs, collar and band--all the details.  There's also a terrific pocket (I didn't include it on my shirt).

The Blouse Perfected view B    The Blouse Perfected envelope back

View B has a deep hem, side vents, and plain hems on the sleeves (try rolling them up to vary the look).  On this shirt, I left the collar off, so the collar band acts as a mandarin collar.

These fabrics would make great shirts:  (first navy, then black)

View C really cranks up the contemporary vibe.  Louise has taken the classic and given it a twist.  She made this one for the "Sewing with Cotton" challenge for Threads Magazine.  The drape across the front updates the design, and the contrasting white collar and cuffs add zip.  Try it out:

I love View A in silk also, worn untucked and casual.  Very luxurious.
