Black cotton from the Italian design house of Gucci is woven in 2 layers, while it stays fairly lightweight.  The outer layer is woven to form 1/4" crosswise pleats; the inner layer holds the pleats in place.  The fabric is 60" wide, so you could also cut your garment on the crosswise grain rather than the lengthwise grain.  The pleats give the fabric a bit of body, so a shirt could double as a light jacket, or make a top, vest, skirt, or a light jacket.  Keep in mind that this is a 1-way fabric.
