This faux black leather is actually a knit designed by Carolyn Rose, whose garment designs can be seen at Nieman Marcus.  The surface is embossed so it has a subtle sheen and really looks like the texture of leather.  It's a pretty stable knit but stretches enough to be comfortable.  It's a midweight and would work well for a top or simple jacket, or even a pencil skirt.
